Saying Goodbye to 2013...

Wow. This year went by fast, huh? We've had some big ups and equally downs happen in 2013 and I'm excited for what 2014 brings to us! I'm not sure how much celebrating we will be doing though. You see, I slipped in the shower on Christmas Eve and I hurt my leg pretty bad. It's not broken or anything but plenty painful. I don't want to go anywhere that I have to do much walking even though the idea of a party sounds good right now. Also, Dan had to be at work at 3:30 a.m. today. I imagine he'll come home and crash.

How are you celebrating your New Year's Eve?

Cover Reveal: A Final Kiss

Are you ready?? I sure am excited to reveal this great cover! But first... enjoy this little bit about A Final Kiss.

Kate Morris is so close to finally having what she wants in life; a supportive group of female friends, a potential new career she’d almost given up on, and a romance on the horizon. No matter how right things go for her, trouble bites at her heart at every turn. Someone is out there always watching her. She can feel it all the way down to her bones.

And he is waiting for his perfect moment to step into her life permanently. He almost had the perfect woman once before, but one thing stepped in his way then. He needs a new woman and Kate fits the bill perfectly. Nothing will come between him and Kate. Once Wade reveals his love to Kate, she’ll love him too. After all, they were meant to be together at all costs… even if it means taking away anyone else who might interfere.

Tony walked out of Kate’s life so many years ago, leaving a wrecked girl in his wake. One trip to the Phoenix airport shoves the all-woman version of Kate back into his life. He wants to get to know her again, but she isn’t playing easy with him this time. If given one more chance to make up for lost time, he would never leave again. Gone on his deployment, he decides to email her anyway. Through the emails she starts slowly warming up… enough to express her concern about a stalker. With the police officer’s lack of help, Tony heads to Phoenix instead of home upon his return to the states. Kate doesn’t trust herself around Tony, so he takes matters into his own hands. Will he be able to watch over Kate without her finding out and resist falling in love with her all over again? Will Tony be able to catch the stalker before Kate is harmed?

Merry Christmas

I'm a day late on wishing you a Merry Christmas! I had this post planned out, but before I could sit at my computer, I slipped and hurt my leg. It was hard to walk yesterday and I did a lot of resting. Good thing we wanted to stay home for the holiday... going anywhere would've been torture for sure. The swelling and the majority of pain is gone. Now I have a giant lump and bruise.

How was your holiday?

Sexiest Man Alive?

Okay... the decision has been made... and here is the sexiest man alive. Last year was Channing Tatum which I totally agree with. I don't know who this man is, but he isn't too bad either. What are your thoughts. If you wouldn't pick him, who would you pick?

I'm Upset!

I hurried out of bed this morning with one thing on my mind... writing! With everyone still fast asleep, I made coffee, grabbed my laptop and started going through my files, looking for the one manuscript I wanted to work on... Lost and Found, Desert Secrets book 3. And then I noticed the date that I had started the story. Ready for this? January 1st of 2010! I've been working on this one single book off and on for 3 years. My readers have been waiting for this book for 3 years!  I know they have because I get emails. Sigh.

It's time to finish that book already...

If you want to get hooked on another series, try out Confessions. You can find it here. Midnight secrets is the 2nd book in the series.

Write at the Merge: Dangerous Desires

“What did you just call me?” Sebastian asked from somewhere in the office behind her.

Even though Mia wanted to rush into his arms again, she refused to turn around. She never knew what to expect when in his company. He always left her guessing everything from how she felt to what she wanted in the future… and wanting more than what she was given. This had to stop. Crossing her arms across her chest, she said, “You’re like a tornado to my emotions. When you’re around me I get all tingly, but then reality sets in, changing my feelings toward you into something else.” She felt him move behind her. “And those feelings aren’t usually pleasant.” He turned her around. It took every ounce of strength to avoid his gaze as she continued her explanation. “And then you do something so damned irresistible—”

He put his finger to her lips to quiet her words. “Well, this tornado loves you. What will make you believe me?”

She let out a breath as her gaze traveled up the smooth lines of his jaw, over his thin lips, and locked onto his eyes. “Sebastian?” Mia’s heart raced with excitement. To calm her pulse, she took a deep breath and slowly let it out before asking, “You really love me?”

“I do. Hopefully that’ll be the prominent emotion I stir up in you too.”

I used a writing prompt from Write at the Merge. The prompt was the phrase, "this tornado loves you. What will make you believe me?" and decided to write a new scene for the next book in my Mafia Hearts series. Interested in the series? Grab the first book here

It's Snowing in the Book but 90 degrees Here!

Toward the end of the summer I received the invite to write a novella for a fall anthology. The requirement was that the story had to take place in the fall when it's cold. You see, I'm in Arizona so my fall season isn't the same as everyone else's. We have our fall now... and it's 90 degrees today.

Anyway, when I decided to write this novella for the anthology, it had to be about 112 or so. I dunno, but it sure was smokin' hot outside. During the summer months we have to be careful while outside because of the heat. When visiting the store you have to watch your hands opening the door to the store or your car. Cars overheat and tires blow
. Kids get dehydrated super fast. Swimming isn't even fun anymore because the pool isn't cool. So when facing the task of writing a novella about a frost (something we NEVER have!) I had to take myself some place else mentally. I used to live in Northern Arizona where it did snow on occasion. I had to force myself to remember snuggling deep inside of a warm jacket (we don't own anything warmer than a hoodie here!) and what it felt like to have snow hit my cheeks. I had to force myself to forget about the heat around me and make believe I lived in the cold while I wrote my character's story.

See how well I did with this. Grab a copy of First Frost here. It's free!

The First Frost anthology is here!

I'm so excited to announce that the First Frost anthology is available now! You can grab a copy here for free. If you ask me, there isn't a better price than that.

The novella I have in this anthology is In His Embrace. Here is the blurb:

When life’s glow threatens to die in a person, love’s light guides the way.

Tori expected Friday to be completely ordinary: a quick goodbye to her best friend who was going away on a business trip for the weekend, a routine checkup at her doctor’s office, and the rest of the day filled with work. But she was wrong. Ben’s hand rested on her hips a little longer than usual during their goodbye, igniting sparks she’d tried to ignore for years, and then her tests came back abnormal. Scared and alone, she wishes for one person’s hand to hold–Ben’s. He is trying to make it back before her next doctor visit, but can he?

My Sexy Saturday: A Sneak Peek of Jesse's Girl?

Did you read Jesse's Brother and wonder what happened to the other brother? Ta da! I bring you the very first sneak peek to the sequel, Jesse's Girl. If you haven't read the first book, you can pick up the Romance Super Bundle now! Jesse's Brother is one of the books in the bundle. Buy the Romance Super Bundle Here!

Enjoy Jesse's Girl:

The next Thursday Jesse found himself in exercise gear in another session of beginner yoga. He still didn’t enjoy the class and would rather be sitting behind his desk in a meeting with clients even though the view of Zoey’s backside provided great scenery.
“Downward Dog,” she called out to the five other people in the room. “Let me demonstrate and then I’ll walk around to help you develop the correct form.”
Jesse didn’t need to know the correct anything while in this class but pretended to be an attentive student as Zoey bent over with her hands and feet planted on the mat, her legs spread apart to have her ass up in the air. Sure, it was supposed to be some sort of exercise move but Zoey’s smokin’ body made Jesse switch his thoughts from fitness to pornographic fantasies where Zoey starred. He let his gaze travel over her firm ass and settled on her center. As he shifted his position on his yoga mat to relieve the tension growing in his lap, he wondered how the hell he was going to do downward dog with a hard-on.
He got into position. “Zoey, is this right?” he called out so she would move out of the pose, but he hadn’t expected her to come over to him.
“Almost but not quit, Jesse.” When she slid her hand up the back of his hamstring, his breath caught in his chest, almost causing him to choke when it finally rushed between his lips.
“Relax,” she said softly. “And don’t lock your knees.”

He would’ve been able to relax if she didn’t continue to slide her smooth hand up to the back of his thigh. “I’m trying.”

Haunted Cemetery Part 2

The truth is that I didn't need realize the response I'd get about my visit to the cemetery so the few pictures I took sucked on that trip. However, I have revisited the cemetery to get some more pictures to share.

I have done some research on this cemetery and found that there was a small town named Adamsville just down the road from the cemetery. In 1900 the town flooded and a lot of people died. They were buried in an extended part of the cemetery and nobody knows exactly how many people are buried there because only the important people have headstones. I found another document saying that the people in Adamsville had been doing a rain ceremony shortly before the flood and cut the head off a chicken. The people on the Indian reservation across the street thought they were performing witchcraft and a fight broke out. Here is what is left of Adamsville:

The whole reason why I wanted to visit the cemetery were the 'witches' graves near the road. I couldn't find much information about these witches except for the hint of witchcraft that I mentioned above. Notice in the pictures that there are no headstones and someone occasionally puts flowers on the graves. Here is a better picture of the witches graves.

The interesting part of this is that I've asked people around Florence about these graves. Most people have heard of the witches, a few agree that the place is haunted, but nobody really knows the story. Nobody knew of Adamsville. I hear that if you go to the graves at night, you might see the witches wandering around.

My experience in the cemetery was interesting. First of all, I never get scared in graveyards, but this one had me on edge the moment I stepped out of the car. I was wearing capris that day that went to my knees. The first strange thing that happened was when I walked into the cemetery. The front of my legs started itching and burning. The feeling was intense enough to offer discomfort but not to put me in pain. I ignored the sensation and kept exploring the place. The itching/burning left as quickly as it came about 5 minutes later.

The second incident was right before we left. I heard a woman's voice in the small patch of trees in the corner of the cemetery. I asked Dan if he'd heard anything and he said no.  I didn't go over there on this trip but did on my second. Take a look at the pictures. The first one shows that there are no houses in the area that would allow a woman's voice to travel from. The second shows the patch of trees where I heard it from and the third is the single grave among the trees.

The third thing was a picture I took on the 2nd trip there. My daughter says the blur is my finger. I tried retaking the picture with my finger in the same location and looking the same way. The second picture is the closest we were able to get and was taken at a different location. I don't think it looks the same. You be the judge...

Here are some random pictures of the cemetery. As you can see, the place is worn out and has been vandalized. It makes me sad to visit because I see the attempt that someone makes to better the place without much luck.

Guess what else? My daughter has convinced Dan to take her there at night. I won't be going! Instead, I'll be begging local friends to let me hang out at their houses while my family goes ghost hunting.

Our Adventure to the Haunted Cemetery- Part 1

If you've known me for any length of time, you know that I'm so scared of the paranormal. I believe in ghosts and all that jazz, but I'm terrified of that area of our world. So why did I venture to a well-known haunted cemetery? This is how it all started:

Dan grew up in Florence and his family still lives there. We make the 2 hour trip often. On one of our times down to the small town, he took me on a side road that wound through the desert. Houses dotted part of the way but not too much. "Hey," he said, "want to see where the witches are buried?"

"Witches?" I asked, amazed. You see, witches are interesting to me. "There are witches buried out here?"

And my non-believer of paranormal drove me to the grave sites that sit right on the side of the road. He said that all he remembered is that three witches were hanged and buried in the plots, and if you visit the graves at night, you might see the witches' ghosts.  I was too scared to get out of the car, but I grabbed a picture while we were there.

We did ask some of our friends if they knew anything about the graves on the side of the road. They all said that those belong to some witches, but nobody knew the story behind them. On the way home, a plot for a new book took over my brain.

And I started doing research the moment I got home. I found out that there was a town called Adamsville out there. In 1900 the town flooded, killing most of the people. The townspeople were buried in a graveyard just down the road from the town and haunts the graveyard. A lot of paranormal investigation teams visit this place and get a variety of readings all the time. Dan had no idea that Adamsville had existed and we decided to visit these two places as soon as we drove down there again.

And we did. Check out Part 2 to our adventure to see the pictures and what happened while we were there.

Regarding That Scene: An Email from Lisa Palmer

Gasp! I received an email from Lisa Palmer, heroine from Lost and Found, Desert Secrets Book 3. Here is what she had to say to me:

Dear Wendy,

We haven't spent much quality time together lately, leaving me to think that you've forgotten some pertinent parts of the story. On thing is that scene. You must know what scene I'm talking about. Please say you do as I'm not one to kiss and tell. I'm talking about the part where Seth and I go out in the desert on the ATV. We stop for lunch and get caught up in a monsoon. In the scene, we only kiss. This is where you went wrong. By this point in the book, I'm no longer that timid divorcee but a woman full of passion. Seth Brite lights that fire deep in me that had been put out so long ago. Please redo this part and make the scene as hot as the desert in the summer time.

Thanks a ton,

Lisa Palmer

My Sexy Saturday: Dangerous Desires

I wrote this scene just for My Sexy Saturday. It's unedited, but I hope you like it! This is going into the "extra scenes" file for Dangerous Desires, Mafia Hearts Book 2. Maybe it'll make it in. If you want to get hooked on a new naughty series, check out Dangerous Flames, Mafia Hearts Book 1. You can buy Dangerous Flames here!

Mia finished drying the last her hair and turned the blow dryer off, allowing her to hear the frantic knock on the front door of her apartment. Glancing down at the towel covering her naked body, panic formed into her chest. She rushed into her bedroom where her new red satin robe waited on the bed. She slid the smooth sleeves up her arms and let the towel fall to her feet. The knocks sounded again.

“I’m coming,” she called. “Just give me a minute.” She secured the belt around her waist as she scurried down the hall. Flinging the door open, she froze. There he was, the very man she wanted with her tonight.

“Please don’t think I lack manners for dropping by so late. I tried calling first.” Without waiting for a reply, Sabastian stepped past her to enter her living room. His boldness in invading her space following such a nice statement made her giggle.

“I would never think any such thing. Why did you decide to stop by at--” She glanced at the clock on the Blu-ray player, “almost midnight?”
He ran a hand over his unshaven chin. “Listen, Mia. I think you’re way over your head here.”

As she listened to his words, she couldn’t distract her mind from wandering over the length of him along with her gaze. His tousled dark hair looked as if he’d recently climbed out of bed, the stubble on his tan skin claimed the same, and his t-shirt and designer jeans looked like he’d pulled them from the hamper. This side of Sebastian was a different one she knew… and she’d never seen him look sexier.

“Way over your head,” he repeated, taking a step closer. His gruff voice pulled her from her thoughts but did nothing to zap the passion building in her. “Listen to me.”

“Over my head with what, Sabastian? Wanting to work with the Mafia or trying to seduce you?”

He took another step closer. “You haven’t tried to seduce me.” His gaze traveled over her face and rested on her skin showing from between the folds of the satin robe.

“I am now,” Mia said, pushing the delicate fabric from her body.

What I learned from the Writing Contest!

A little over a month ago I entered one of my manuscripts into a RWA chapter contest for the first time. While a lot of people enter these things to have the editor at the end read it, I entered to help the chapter because this is how they fund many of their activities and their entries were low. I grabbed one of my work-in-progress, cleaned it up some, and then ran it by a critique partners. Then I submitted it to the contest. I did have that thought though that if I finaled, I'd add the credit to my list of writing achievements.

While in bed, my phone pinged on my nightstand. The email said that I *did not final*. WHAT?! I was shocked because my manuscript is amazing. It is the sequel to another book and the characters are awesome. But I didn't final!! This is my response:

Me (saying this to my honey): I didn't final in the contest. I SUCK as a writer.
Honey gave me lots of hugs and kisses and said: Babe, you do not suck as a writer. Why didn't you final?
Me: I don't know.

And then the next email came. The one that says why I didn't final in the contest. The email that comes from the two judges and gives their critique of the manuscript. The very thing that confirms why I suck as a writer. It is my score cards! And... my honey had fallen asleep so I climbed out of bed to head to the computer to check this thing out.

I opened the first score card. That judge generally liked my story. She gave me all good scores but had a few comments on where I needed to improve.  These scores lifted my spirits some. And then the score card of doom came. Almost the lowest scores you can get on EVERY section. I even had two well accomplished authors help me with the synopsis and still received a poor score. As my kids would say: I was butt hurt.... and that lasted all of five minutes. Here is why:

  • Both judges had complaints in one area. My hero was too mean. Yes, he was the jerk in the first book and needs to start out that way in the second. Because both of the judges said the same, I'm going to lighten his character up a little bit. They also said that the heroine needs to be tougher. I will also do this too.
  • One judged liked everything else and the other judge didn't. I've learned that I will always feel a ping of pain when someone doesn't like my book... but:
  • I can't please everyone. Some people will love it while others hate it. I need to remember this so I can stay true to the story and true to the characters while listening to the valid comments of people regarding my work.
  • I've judged this contest many times. Now that I've been on the other side of the situation, I can take my experience and be better judge in the following years.
And today I feel a lot better and I don't suck as a writer!

The Promised Pictures

I promised you pictures several weeks ago. The kids have been having a great time going to the football games. This is huge because we simply aren't a football family. Guess what? My daughter made the powderpuff football team!

Here are two pictures of my daughter and her band. I took the top pictures but none of the others. She loooves playing music and really does have the talent.
My son is in the JROTC. They attend all of the home games. The picture to the left is before they received their uniforms. It's so neat to see them all lined up and marching. In the bottom picture, Trevor is the blonde talking to his friend.

My Sexy Saturday: Jesse's Brother

Happy Sexy Saturday! I'm so glad you stopped by. Today I'm sharing a treat from Jesse's Brother. Did you know that Jesse's Brother is now part of a box set with 9 other full length romance novels for 99 cents! You can grab a copy of the Romance Super Bundle here: http://amzn.com/B00FFS338I

“It has been a perfect day.” He gently kissed her lips. “We should do this again soon.”

Samantha rose from the sand and walked back to the water. She sat down on the water’s edge, her lower half barely in the water.

Noah stood up from the blanket to follow her over. They were quiet for a few minutes, watching the boats pass.

Letting his hand rest on her thigh, he leaned over to kiss her again. The passion ignited in Samantha as his tongue played against hers. She leaned back on the sand, letting his weight shift onto her. When he pulled away, he played with a strand of her hair as he stared into her eyes. His hand moved down her shoulder and then to her breasts. Her fingers caressed his bare skin, adding fuel to her desire.

A boat went down the river, sending gentle waves over them. Neither broke away. Their hands wandered all over each other. She loved the way his bare muscles rippled under her touch. His shaft throbbed against her leg when he arched his back to let out a soft moan. The temptation to reach down to his erection was hard to resist.

Her eyes drifted shut to imprint this perfection into her memories. Not one of his kisses, touches, or moments should be forgotten. This euphoric phase they were in should be lingered over and not rushed, even though she was tempted. He kissed her neck as she leaned back against the sand, her breaths urgent gasps.

Noah continued to kiss Samantha’s neck, making trails from her swollen lips down her chest and back up again. His hands slid over her barely-covered breasts and the insides of her thighs.

A Trait to Have

For two weeks now I've wanted nothing more than to sit at my computer and just write a few chapters on my current project. Why haven't I, you ask. After all, I am an a writer. You see, a very good trait to have as a writer is flexibility.

I might plan to spend all day writing a rough draft... to bring new characters to life, to explore the mysteries in the town I've created, and to create the happily ever after that makes readers' hearts swell. Yep. That is what I wanted to do. But couldn't because this job (that I love!) require me to be flexible. All it takes is one click on the email inbox tab and my plans can be crushed!

I have one huge project and a smaller one going at this time. 9 other authors and I have released a Romance Super Bundle (grab one! 10 full length novels for 99 cents http://amzn.com/B00FFS338I). To get this ready, we've had to discuss pictures, fonts, covers, and every other aspect that goes into putting a bundle together. We've all had to agree on these things or compromise. We've also had to do a lot of promoting, discussions about who to advertise with, and deciding on the launch party. I'm putting on the launch party so I've had to organize the prizes, pick games/contests, and did a lot of promoting. The party is on Monday so I have a lot more to do.

And then there is the smaller project. The novella titled In His Embrace that I wrote for an anthology by my publisher. I wrote the novella and sent it over. They accepted it and we started edits. After two rounds of edits, I was told that the ending just doesn't work. WHAT?! Now on to rewrites. I'm telling you... rewrites are much harder than writing the first draft!

And all I want to do is put on some headphones and let the words flow from my fingertips! I'm on to writes so that will have to happen on another day!

“I’m not worried about food right now.” He pressed his lips against the curve of her neck before asking, “Your first time shooting one of these?”
Her breath came out in a rush as desire crashed through her, making her nipples pucker against the fabric of her bra. “Yes.”
“How does it feel in your hands?” he whispered in her ear.
“And?” His fingers slid down her arms and finally wrapped around her hands.
“Dangerous.” Her thighs started to tingle, her panties dampened, while her core yearned for him.

Great News!

What have I been doing lately? Working on a novella for my publisher's new anthology. The opportunity hit my inbox last month and I knew I wanted to jump on it. My editor said to revise my first idea, so I took this as a chance to come up with a completely new story line and characters. And I fell in love with them! Even though I was sick I met my submission deadline and completed the first round of edits this morning. The novella is called In His Embrace. Watch for the anthology to be released in November!

Let me tell you, I'm delighted that the first day of fall has finally arrived. I live in Arizona and we have very hot summers... this last one no exception. I'm looking forward to being able to enjoy the outdoors, to drink my coffee and write at my new patio table, and visiting some local parks we've recently found.

She quickly learns that the Mafia still has a hand in controlling society and her father is the Don of the largest mob organization in the area. When a hit order is taken out on her father and one of his members will be doing the killing, Gabi’s mother demands Gabi’s disappearance. For good. This time she refuses to go alone.

The Mafia doesn’t seem so glamorous any more. Not sure what Mik’s role in her father’s crime family is but sure he is involved, Gabrielle has reason to believe that her secret love's safety is in jeopardy too.

Mikolas Russo is one hit away from becoming part of the Medini crime family. But is this what he really wants? Killing people for money is what he has been trained to do even though he’d give anything to trade the nightmares for sweet dreams of the forbidden Gabrielle. Thinking he has the chance to reveal his feelings to her, he arrives at her house to find her brandishing a loaded gun, ready to take control.

Will the truth fulfill her desires, or will Mikolas be the one to shatter everything?

Fortune Teller Blog Hop

Meet the Mia from Dangerous Desires, the next book in the Mafia Hearts series. After you enjoy this snippet from my WIP, check out the other participants in the blog hop.

Mia walked down a side street leading away from the Las Vegas strip. She glanced down at the display on her cheap cell phone. Another forty-five minutes until she could meet with the apartment manager. Adjusting the bag on her shoulder, she eyed the seedy businesses dotting the street. A bright "open" sign drew grabbed her attention. Hmm. She'd never been to a fortune teller... no wait, a psychic. A new experience for a new brand new city.

She strode up the sidewalk and through the door, not hesitating on her decision until an old woman entered the small room.

"You want future told?" the woman asked in broken English. Her tanned skin wrinkled with age around her eyes glistening with a bright wisdom.

Mia slowly nodded.

The woman pointed her long, thing finger to the large backed chairs off to the left side of the room. What happened to the round table? The crystal ball? Mia shook her head at her preconvied notions of what this experience would be like as she followed the woman's directions.

Sitting across from Mia, the woman rested her hands in her lap, her eyes never leaving Mia's face. "Secrets."

"Excuse me?" Mia asked.

The woman nodded. "You here in Las Vegas based on secrets. A love affair? A job?"

Mia's hands trembled. How did she know that? Well, she wasn't having any type of relationship with Sebastian but her goal was to find him. And her future career would entirely be based on a secret. She wanted the money that the Mafia, and Sebastian, would bring her.

"Am I wrong?"

"I'm not having a love affair. But work, yes."

The woman's laugh rang out. "Oh, but you will. I see it clearly. You will too."

Mia's heart raced. "Anything else?" Did she even want to know? She wasn't so sure.

"Your secrets will  explode. Boom! Right in your face."

Not wanting to lose this chance with him, she wiped her sweaty palms down her pants before
putting her arms over his shoulders. Tingles of excitement raced throughout her body when Miguel
slid his arm around her waist and pulled her even closer to him, making her breasts press tight
against his chest. Her breath caught in her throat. Her body stiffened when his lips found the curve
of her neck as they swayed together over the grass, while the slow song filled the warm air with
sweet tunes. The evening would’ve been perfect if she hadn’t had to continuously push away the
panic that tried to make an appearance in her heart.

“We can stop if you aren’t sure about doing this,” he whispered against her ear, his hot breath
sending shivers through her.

“I want to.” Each part of her body screamed for more, in spite of the mix of emotions flooding through her by his embrace. Fear swirled through the arousal and desire to be with him. Maybe she should just end it with him right here. End the dance, end the date, and end any tomorrow that might’ve happened with Miguel. But she didn’t want him to let go of her.

“Then relax. I won’t hurt you.” He ran his fingers through her hair. “Not ever.”

Her stomach tightened as she repeated his words in her mind. He wouldn’t hurt her ever. The more she thought about what he’d said, the more she believed him. The words intoxicated her, or
the wine finally started to work, making her relax against him. Were those the words she needed
to hear? She took a deep breath, enjoyed the spicy scent of his cologne, and his arms holding her
tight against him. Even the moon seemed a little brighter as it started coming up for the night.
She snuggled closer to him, allowing his hot breath to brush across her ear, sending shivers
down her spine. Being with Miguel made her realize how much she’d missed the security that came
with being with a man. If she’d known what she’d been missing, she might’ve dated sooner. But
what if he caused this sensation to come over her and nobody else could? Nope, not Miguel. It
couldn’t be him because that would mean this was more than she thought. No entanglements. Only
fun. And that’s what she’d have.

Allison pulled back a tiny bit to look in his dark eyes. She moved her face forward to brush
her lips gently against his. The simple kiss shot sparks through her body. Her lips parted and she
tasted the tip of his tongue as it played just inside her mouth. Heat swirled around in her belly and
traveled in both directions through her body, all the way down to the tips of her toes and up to her
cheeks, making every part of her body long for him. Opening her mouth more provided the chance
to take his tongue all the way in.

His hand reached under the back of her shirt to trace small circles over her skin with his
warm fingers, then moved around her side to her stomach. “Do you want me to stop?”

I stood by the lake’s edge and tossed a rock, trying to make it skip across the water as my
father had once taught me when I was a little girl. My lips twisted in a frown as the rock plopped against the water and quickly sank. Obviously, rock skipping could be added to my list of

“Hey.” The sudden sound of a deep voice cutting through the silence should’ve startled me, but it didn’t at all.

Curious, I turned toward the sound.

He stood there with a strand of dark hair falling down against his tanned forehead. He
brushed it back and smiled, revealing a brilliant set of teeth.

“Have we met before?” I asked, trying to place him from somewhere.

Instead of answering, he stepped next to me. “Let me show you how to do that.” He
picked up a rock and twisted his wrist just right, sending the rock skipping across the water.

Once the rock sank, he turned to me again. His dark eyes stared into mine as he slid his finger
down my cheek.
